The Many Faces of Second Life

Posted by cydonia1978

Through out my time in Second Life I went through a lot of avatar changes. This is mainly because it used to be very difficult to get your av to look anywhere near decent. It's also because I was trying to find what kind of style I wanted to keep as what represented "me" in my second life.

Here is a history of the changes I've gone through over the years.

My very first day in Second Life, and my very first av.

My third day in Second Life and the av that would carry me for around seven days.

I decided I wanted to try black hair. This av only lasted around five days, though.

The black didn't suit me well so I thought I'd try my best to recreate my real self. I stuck with this one for around 20 days.

Prim hair was starting to be invented and I knew I had to try that. I also knew I'd rather not look like my real self, and my fave color is purple. Thus, I tried this av. It lasted a mere three days before I found better prim hair.

Finally I found a look and hair I enjoyed. Well, as much as I could for the still-scary-looking avs they had in 2004. This look basically stuck with me until 2005, although I did try the hair-out-of-braids look too (next pic).

About 19 days after I found my braids I tried letting my hair down. I alternated between this av and the previous until I disappeared from Second Life for a while.

In July 2005 I returned to Second Life to find it quite a bit changed. One of the biggest changes was better prim hair and the ability to install "real skin". I again recreated my true self and stuck with this av until I disappeared for a while again.

Life has a way of getting busy, and after July 2005 I became quite busy. School, work, and my then-boyfriend took all my time until he and I both decided to return to Second Life in March 2008. The world again had greatly improved, and this is what I came up with for an av (I had lost the Cydonia account, so now I was Kasei).

Life took us out of Second Life until April 2009 when we both returned, now married. Although I still liked my 2008 av, I had a lot of fun building this new one.

Not changing avs this time, just love "costumes". My husband and I bought furries and I created a purple fairy bunny in time for Easter.

We decided to make "goth" avs, so I created this look. I don't know if I'll use it much, but I really like her! :D

My Second Life

Posted by cydonia1978

It all started in May of 2004. I had stumbled across an online virtual world called There and decided to check it out. It was cartoony, cute, and VR, so I was instantly intrigued. And it was definitely a fun little place to hang out. But it was also rather limited. I wouldn't know just how limited it was until later, but it really was.

During my travels in There I was told of yet another online virtual world. This one was called Second Life. I've been interested in VR since I got my PC in '95, so I was more than happy to check out this other world to see what it was like.

First impressions aren't always an important thing. My first impression was that the world was neat but the avatars were SCARY.

I wasn't wrong. This picture was taken in my first minutes in Second Life on May 22nd, 2004. I was in the orientation area learning to customize my av. I was desperately trying to make it not look so scary. Honest!

Well, regardless of the scary avs and somewhat questionable graphics, I stuck around. Also despite the cannibis-filled rave club/sex club that I was invited to after escaping the orientation. Yeah, I like to party, but that was kind of frightening.

So I've been in and out of Second Life for almost five years now. I have lots of great pictures and memories to share so I will be doing so with this blog.

Enjoy!
